The Club

Sheffield Nomads Chess Club play in the Sheffield and District Chess Association (S&DCA) League. We meet every Wednesday at 7.30 at The Harlequin on Nursery Street just off The Wicker.

The Teams

After another great season in 2007/08 our A Team won Division 1 for the third season in a row, this time after a play off against Woodseats A, and retained the Davy Trophy. The C Team won Division 3 and accepted promotion to Division 2. At the AGM we decided to experiment running a D Team in Division 4 - which has actually turned out to be a great success.

New players

New players are always welcome - especially if they own a car.  If you are interested in a game contact Paul Bailey on 078 12 49 49 57 or come down to The Harlequin on a Wednesday at about 7.30.

The League

We have four teams, imaginatively called A, B, C, and D, playing in divisions 1, 2, 2 (again), and 4 of the Sheffield and District Chess Association league. We have players graded from a handy 80 up to a very strong 200, so whatever your playing strength we should be able to find you a match. League and Cup matches are scheduled to start at 7.30 but usually don't kick off till a bit later. The time control is one hour per player for the first 30 moves then 15 minutes per player to complete her/his moves, so matches last a maximum two and a half hours.
