Captain's Corner
I really should write my match reports sooner when I can still
remember what happened! Err... we thrashed them! Nice one guys!
No wait it's coming back to me - Jon Woollard played a good line against the
Centre Counter in his A-team debut (thanks for filling in Jon!). I like the idea
of waiting to kick the queen from d5 with pawn to c4 rather than a quick Nc3.
Elsewhere, I seem to remember Jeremy simplifying nicely into a winning king and
pawn ending. Prasun's game and Jon Nelson's game you can judge for yourself.
They looked pretty good to me. Stuart went for a ferocious kingside attack
against the Caro-Kann. Black's queen went on a pawn grabbing expedition, and
Stuart was only too happy to continue with f4-f5. Ken? I'm not sure. Chris? An
instructive ending saw a knight deflecting and blocking a bishop, clearing the
way for a passed pawn. Chris tells me the preceding moves weren't quite so good
though! Me? I was last to finish as usual! I spent the whole game hanging in
there, and was rewarded with half a point after managing to swap off all the
pawns.
