The Club
We play in the Sheffield and District Chess Association (S&DCA) League. We meet every Wednesday throughout the year, whether there's a match or not, at 7.30 upstairs at The Harlequin, a friendly real ale pub on Nursery Street just off The Wicker . New players are always welcome - especially if they own a (big) car.
The Teams
Our club has four teams - imaginatively called A, B, C, and D - playing in diviisions 1, 1 (again), 2, and 4 of the S&DCA League. We have players graded from a handy 60 up to an unfeasibly strong 200, so whatever your playing strength we should be able to find you a match. League and Cup matches are scheduled to start at 7.30 but don't usually kick off till a bit later. The time control is 1 hour per player for the first 30 moves, then 15 minutes per player to complete her/his moves, so games last a maximum 2½ hours (followed by a post mortem in which we laugh at each other's piece hanging catastrophes).
