Monday at the Three Merry Lads, Chesterfield...Captain Kieran had chosen an, er, inopportune moment to disappear back to the old country. Paul C travelled from afar, Geoff F climbed wearily off his sick bed*, and Ian tried to remember which way round the bishops and knights went. Battle was joined. Jon and Mohammad won, Chris and Geoff drew, but everyone else had a night to forget: on the other boards an array of time control blunders, oversights, and generally better chess by Chesterfield A. 3-5. Chesterfield's match report here. *This is a gross exaggeraton, bordering on a misleading falsehood.
Thursday the D Team travelled to Aughton B, eventually. Gordon's car disappeared into a one way system and emerged with a 25 minute time handicap. Two thirds of the car (Milan and Robert) managed to win and Eric picked up a half, but Aughton's three wins were a fraction too far. 2½-3½.

I guess the B team will have to exact some measure of revenge... We can take them!!! (we'll just skirt over the fact that their board 7 appears to be of a higher grade than our board 1).

Climbing off the bed wasn't weary, just 3 games all black in 6 days....oh and holiday vaccinations in each arm. Perhaps I should do it more often, I lost the other 2.
