Ex-Captain's Corner
A virtual rematch of the previous week's C Team fixture with, unfortunately, the same result. In another wild, complicated game Mohammad once again went toe to toe with Ryan Burgin who managed to get his attack in first, invade on the seventh, and force mate. Mursal managed his clock much better but still ran out of time in what we thought was a +/= position. Masrura was pressed back and her opponent used a strong passed pawn to finish of his attack. Ian made a slight miscalculation at the end of a variation that would have allowed a knight fork instead he retreated gave his opponent a chance to lose his knight in a trap instead a repetitoin arose. Kev's opponent inexplicably left his queen en prise around move 15 with three quarters of an hour left on the clock (something similar happened last year for Kev against the same opposition). Phil increased his advantage over the evening leading to a free running outside passed pawn deciding matters. 2½-3½, again, and the Plate to look forward to.
